Mount Ararat

Mount Ararat

Sleeping vulcano near the border to Armenia

Mount Ararat is a sleeping volcano in the Ararat highlands in eastern Turkey near the border to Armenia. With 5137 m it is not only the highest mountain in Turkey, but also more than 300 m higher than the highest mountain of the Alps (Mont Blanc 4810m) - and also the highest mountain I have ever seen live.

The Bible says that Noah's Ark stranded at Mount Ararat after the Flood.

On the first photo you can see on the right next to Ararat also the smaller neighbouring mountain, the "Small Ararat". It is still 3896 m high.
